Midnight Munchies - Chocolate Peanut Butter Ice Cream with Chocolate-Covered Pretzels and Peanut Butter Cups |
Opening the pint and peeling off the "Eat Me." foil (see below), I see the brown color of the chocolate base with a few of the peanut butter cups and pretzels right there on the top. I have noted in the past the thick and creamy texture of Coolhaus bases but here you can actually see it in on the surface. Something about the way it has pulled away from the rim of the container on the edges. Digging in, the ice cream is indeed soft and creamy. The flavor of the base is primarily chocolate. It is not as dark as the previous Coolhaus pint, but it is not an obvious blend with peanut butter either. The mix-ins are distributed generously throughout the pint. The peanut butter cups were soft and chewy and a high chocolate ratio -- meaning there was a some peanut butter in the middle there was a lot of chocolate covering. The pretzels were also had a dominant chocolate coating meaning that they were fun to chew on but the pretzel itself (and any salt) did not stick out as much as I expected. It was still good though. It's easy to enjoy thick and creamy chocolate ice cream with chewy chocolatey mix-ins.
I liked this pint. All of the creamy chewy chocolate gave the pint a guilty-pleasure comfort food quality but overall it wasn't so heavy as to be overwhelming. The peanut butter and the pretzels played a supporting role which surprised me. But with the right expectations this can be a very enjoyable pint.
