Chocolate Milk & Cookies - Chocolate Ice Cream with Chocolate Chip Cookies & Chocolate Cookie Swirls Topped with Milk Chocolatey Ganache & Fudge Chips

 

Ben & Jerry's has two new Topped flavors for 2022 -- Chocolate Milk & Cookies and Dirt Cake.  The Topped flavor line was introduced last year and features a solid layer of chocolate (or white chocolate) ganache across the top to dig your spoon through before you get to the ice cream.  Today's flavor is Chocolate Milk & Cookies and features a chocolate ice cream base with with chocolate chip cookies and chocolate cookie swirls as mix-ins and a topping of milk chocolate ganache mixed with fudge chips.  Sounds like a lot of chocolate!  Let's dig in.

Removing the lid, I see the top layer of milk chocolate ganache with lots of fudge chips sprinkled across the top of it.  It takes a bit of effort to make the initial dig of the spoon through the top, but once it is started, it is pretty easy.  The top layer is indeed quite chocolatey.  Ben & Jerry's fudge chips deliver a lot of flavor and immersing them in the chocolate ganache just magnifies that.  The ice cream below is also chocolate.  Ben & Jerry's does not have the most potent chocolate bases, but here they have suped it up with their chocolate cookie swirl.  This is one of my favorite swirls of theirs, it has a gritty texture and delivers chocolate flavor to enhance their base.  The chocolate chip mix-ins feature brown sugar cookies and chocolate chips.  These cookies were smeared into a swirl more than I was expecting.  As you can see from the photos, there is not a lot of brown sugar color, but it is still noticeable.

This is a super chocolatey Topped pint from Ben & Jerry's.  I found it all extremely chocolatey.  I think chocoholics may enjoy all the different ways of bringing you chocolate at once, but I it was a lot for me and I was looking for a bit more contrast from the chocolate chip cookie swirl.  My favorite chocoholic flavor from Ben & Jerry's is still the classic New York Super Fudge Chunk flavor.
